We’re now in the Dominican Republic having an adventure packed week with Adventuresque:
It’s seriously a fun filled time – rafting, horseback riding, scuba, etc, however we’ll get to that in another post. . . cause, today we had an adventure that wasn’t quite planned. . .
So it’s the 4th day of our adventuresque exploits and the original plan was surfing in the morning with trapeze lessons in the afternoon – easy right? However throughout the night it poured – nay that’s not fully accurate – it monsooned.
It was still raining hard during our breakfast when we learned that our surfing instructor could not get to us due to a flooded road. Our lesson was postponed to the afternoon. Not a problem – we have plenty of time on our hands, so hey ho, let’s go take a morning yoga class instead.
As a side note to the actual adventure part coming up, if you ever get a chance to do yoga overlooking the ocean during a storm – do it! Super atmospheric and still completely zen. Oh and it was Erwan’s first yoga class – HI.LA.RI.TY – particularly considering he still has a sore bum from horseback riding the other day (more on that in another post). He also created a new pose – the dead dog. . .
Back to the adventure – pretty much as soon as we finished our namastes, a woman came running up to us to tell us that our room was flooded! That’s seriously a “namaste bitches”. We ran back to find everything we had on the floor drenched and/or floating in about 2 inches (Erwan says 3 inches, but he exaggerates). Pretty much Jen’s entire pack was affected – she was most stressed about her camera bag which is also on the floor (water resistant doesn’t mean water proof).
Fortunately the hotel had figured out what was going on and had not only cut the electricity, but also sorted out another room for us to move into on the floor above. So then came the mad rush to bring all our soaking stuff upstairs before it got even worse, while testing all of the electronics to make sure none were negatively affected. It now looks like everything is largely fine, so we’re enjoying a beer while we watch all of Jen’s stuff attempt to dry out – see the travel clothesline has already come in handy. . .
Sadly, it’s not as good for everybody else around these parts. Although our room flooded and we now will probably not get that surfing lesson, at least we were still able to move into a clean, dry room and haven’t lost our livelihoods like some. Please spare a thought for those that got it much worse here.
